Description:
Splendid Meiji
Period Red and Black Lacquered Screen
Previously owned by
Nelson A. Rockefeller, this stunning screen has two
of the Buddhist guardians in high relief, polychromed
and wearing elaborate robes, standing on snarling
demons. The elaborately carved borders are bands of
intertwining three-clawed dragons and the beautiful
lower panels are decorated with Kerashishi among peony.
The reverse is lacquered, shell and bone in-lay fans.
For collectors this is a must. Very minor damage,
but in splendid condition. A wonderful 72 inch by
74 inch art work (each panel is 72x37"), from one
of the finest collections of oriental art. A one of
a kind find. Very heavy and very precious.
Provenance: Nelson
A. Rockefeller.
