Description:

Ming Dynasty Temple Kuan Yin
Kuan Yin lives in this stunning six hundred and fifty year old full sized temple Bodhisattva. Weathered and acclimatized hardwood, with original color pigments distinquish this Medieval Asian antique. This is the most popular of the Bodhisattvas, the compassionate Avalokitesvara, Guan Shi Yin – she who looks down with compassion on the suffering of the world – and stands nearly six feet tall. "Eyes opened" in temple ceremonies, this Bodhisattva has been venerated for centuries. Only a true Buddhist who intends to venerate the sculpture should consider this priceless work of art. Kuan Yin is known as Kannon or Kanzeon in Japan and Quanam in Vietnam. The Mongols worshiped him as Nidubarusheckchi. In China, especially, Guan Yin is often worshiped as the "bestower of children" but is generally the deity of compassion – a savior. This is one the finest late Ming carvings we have collected.
