Early Nepalese Jewel Inlaid bronze figure of Manjushri
Early Nepalese Jewel Inlaid bronze figure of Manjushri, 13th/14th century. The figure shown seated on a lotus base which is resting on the back of a recumbant lion. His left leg rests on a flowerhead emanating from below. The lion is supported on a double lotus base, a further architectural platform below. The bronze is gilded over a reddish lacquer surface. Turquoise stones are inlaid into the figure's crown, necklace and arm bands. The gilding is worn, and with some minor losses to the front legs of the base.
Size is 6" height x 3" width x 3" depth.
