King of The Death

Yama or Yamaraja is another popular deva sometimes called King of the Death. His right hand holds a Khadga and his left hand holds a Tarjani Pasa. Yama is responsible for ruling over all the preta realms. 'Yama' in sanskrit means twin rulers, therefore he rules over both the hells as well as ghost realms together with his sister. He rules over the dead males and his sister over the dead females. King Yama lives in palace surrounded by chakravala i.e. iron chained mountain in the south of jambudvipa. As he is the ruler of hells he doesn't enjoy the fruits of meritious karma, as in his previous lives he created many evil karmic forces and had to endure the effects of past karma during three periods of time. When he is in suffering his palace changes into a iron city of burning flames.
