Amitayus Buddha / Buddha Aparimita
Aparamita Long Life Bodhisattva
Aparmita is a popular Long Life Bodhisattava associated with Amitayus,
a crowned Buddha known as the bringer of long life. Together with
White Tara and other long life Buddhas, Aparamita is meditated on
for long life and very popular with cancer patients because of a
long history of miraculous cures. Aparamita is also Amitayus, the
Lord of Sukhavati, another manifestation of Amitabha (Amita).
He is normally seated as shown in a full lotus with hands in the
Dhyana Mudra on his lap, face peaceful in contemplation. He is always
adorned with thirteen ornaments, and holds the long life Ambrosia
vase, decorated with four strings of beads, representing sacred pills.
For long life, or the healing of life-threatining disease, his long
life mantra is often spoken continuously for 24 hours, of for an
hour a day for forty days, with miraculous results:
Om Namo Bhagavate
Aparamita Ayu Jnyana Suvinishcita
Tejo Rajaya
Tathagataya Arhate Samyaksambuddhaya
Tadyatha Om
Punye Punye Maha Punye Aparamita Punye Aparamita Punye
